Two Pieces of Stoneware, American, circa 1840-1890, a two-gallon jug with cobalt "bee stinger" decoration below a stylized slip-trailed "2", impressed "M" at base on reverse, Red Wing, MN origin; paired with a four-gallon ovoid jar with brushed "4", possibly Pennsylvania or Midwestern origin. Jug in very nice condition with a spout chip and some minor traces of old paint drips to reverse. Jar in as-made condition with an in-the-firing contact mark near base, which includes a shallow chip and small adhered piece of clay, as well as an in-the-firing base chip to reverse.
