Rare and Fine Miniature Glazed Redware Jug, Bristol County, MA origin, early 19th century, finely-potted, diminutive jug with footed base and tooled shoulder, the surface covered in a mottled lead-and-manganese glaze with heavy iron flecking throughout. Old label on underside reads "Charlstown (sic) Pottery / 1780 1810," however, the glaze treatment is characteristic of pieces produced further south in Bristol County. Additional old accession number written in ink on underside. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a small New England collection consigned to this auction. Excellent condition with a 3/4" flake to underside, which probably occurred in the firing. H 4 1/2".
