Rare Glazed Redware Face Pipe, attributed to the Singer Pottery, Haycock Township, Bucks County, PA, second half 19th century, hand-carved pipe with relief decoration of a man's face with crown or stylized hair. Surface covered in a blackish lead-and-manganese glaze. This folk art pipe was likely designed after molded ceramic examples of the period, depicting figures with various ornamental head coverings. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, discovered by a Singer family descendant in the 1950s in one of several boxes stored away in the eaves of the Singer Pottery warehouse. Some wear to surface and rim of bowl. H 2" ; L 2 5/8".
