Rare Miniature Glazed Redware Presentation Pitcher, Inscribed "MINNIE L'VELLE / 1878 / FROM ED", probably Schuylkill County, PA origin, 1878, modeled octagonal pitcher with sponged manganese decoration and heavy lead glaze, incised on the underside "MINNIE L'VELLE / 1878 / FROM ED". Incised twice in script on the sides of the pitcher, "Minnie". Minnie L'Velle was the daughter of Martin M. L'Velle / Lavelle, a prominent lawyer in Ashland, Pennsylvania, and Civil War veteran for whom the nearby town of Lavelle was named. Redware from this area of Pennsylvania is basically unheard-of, and this particular example's ties to a prominent local family make it an important object. Excellent condition with minor spout wear. H 5".
