Very Rare Rockingham-Glazed Anna Pottery Pig Bottle with Incised Railroad Map, Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, circa 1880, molded in the form of a reclining pig with incised snout and hooves, anatomically-correct underside, and hole at rear. One side inscribed with the incised advertising "from / Sanford Wells & Co. / N 214 N. Main St / St Louis Mo" along with the slogan "with a little Fine old Bourbon in a". Remainder of pig incised with a railroad map of the Midwestern U.S., with landmarks including "Anna Pottery" and "Chicago the corn crib". Surface covered in a visually-appealing streaked reddish-brown glaze over a yellowish clay body. Few Anna Pottery pigs with Rockingham glaze are known. Loss to back edge of one rear leg. Chip to bottom of edge of opposite rear leg, possibly in-the-firing. Losses to ears. Chipping to base of tail. A small chip and light wear to opening at rear. Some surface wear. Some incised landmarks are partially-obscured by the Rockingham glaze. L 7 1/4".
