Two-Gallon Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Impressed Decoration, Stamped "COMMERAWS / STONEWARE", Manhattan, NY origin, early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted drape-and-tassel motif. Impressed on the front and reverse with the maker's mark, "COMMERAWS / STONEWARE", used by African-American potter, Thomas Commeraw. Long restored crack extending from base to shoulder below one handle. This damaged continues onto underside as an unrestored Y-shaped line on underside. Shallow base chips. Very minor rim wear.
