One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Coggled and Impressed Floral Decoration, attributed to Clarkson Crolius, Sr., Manhattan, NY, early 19th century, ovoid jug with tooled spout and tapered mouth, the front decorated with a large flower blossom composed of a central stamped blossom surrounded by coggled petals. Bright cobalt slip highlights the decoration. Additional light cobalt highlights to handle terminals. The distinctive impressed flower blossom at the center of the design leads to a firm attribution to Clarkson Crolius, Sr. Horizontal crack in base of handle, possibly in-the-firing. An in-the-firing chip to underside at edge. A small spout chip. A very faint, approximately 4" line on reverse.
