Rare One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Impressed Decoration, Stamped "COMMERAWS / STONEWARE", Thomas Commeraw, Corlears Hook, Manhattan, NY, early 19th century, cylindrical jar with heavily-tooled foot, tooled shoulder, and semi-squared rim, decorated with two impressed and cobalt-highlighted "clamshell" motifs flanking the cobalt-highlighted maker's mark, "COMMERAW,S / STONEWARE". The cylindrical shape of this jar is significantly rarer than Commeraw's ovoid jar forms. An 8 1/2" vertical hairline to front. Heavy chipping to base. A few minor rim chips. A 1" in-the-firing iron ping to shoulder.
