Rare Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher with Stenciled Bird Motif, Stenciled "T.F. REPPERT / GREENSBORO. PA", circa 1880, ovoid pitcher with tooling to rim and base of collar, the body decorated with a stenciled, raised-winged bird motif, surrounded by T.F. Reppert maker's stenciling. Further decorated above with two small stenciled tulips and a freehand "2" flanked by flourishes. Collar decorated with three columns of freehand dashes. Freehand stripes to rim, base of collar, and base of pitcher. Brushed cobalt highlight to upper handle terminal. Rare form and size for this maker, featuring Reppert's desirable bird motif. Provenance: Collection of Lorren Lambert, Staunton, VA. Some wear to cobalt, most prominent along the dashes below the spout. A small rim chips to reverse. A long, sealed semi-circular crack to underside along edge with a sealed vertical crack ascending from it approximately 9 1/2" up side of pitcher. H 13".
