Scarce Four-Gallon Wheeling, WV Stoneware Double-Handled Advertising Jug, Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1875, semi-ovoid jug with tooled spout and ribbed open handles, decorated with a large tulip vine design above the stenciled advertising, "LAUGHLIN BROS. / & CO. / 120 S / MAIN ST. / WHEELING. W. VA.", flanked by graduated dashes. Base with freehand "4" flanked by graduated dashes, above straight and wavy freehand stripes. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Excellent form and decoration. Provenance: Collection of Lorren Lambert, Staunton, VA. A chip and minor stone ping to one handle. A glazed-over stone ping to shoulder above one handle. Some chipping to molding at base of spout. A thin 4" crack on underside, continuing 4 1/2" up side of jug, where it forms a narrow T. H 18".
