Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Beaver, PA origin, circa 1865, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed undulating vine bearing three open-centered tulip blossoms, applied over a slip-coated surface. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: Collection of Lorren Lambert, Staunton, VA. Traces of whitish residue to base. Two short, in-the-firing separations on underside. A thin 4" crack from rim on reverse. A faint 1 1/4" line in rim above one handle. Some bubbling to edges of cobalt.
