Rare and Fine Two-Gallon Albany-Slip-Glazed Stoneware Pitcher with Elaborate Freehand Slip Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1885, ovoid pitcher with tooled midsection and tall, flaring collar, the body decorated in tan-to-brown slip with an undulating vine bearing four large flower blossoms. Base of collar decorated with a brown slip dash design and collar decorated with looping line designs. Unusual glaze treatment on a desirable, large-sized pitcher form. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a twenty-year private collection. Base chips. Roughness to rim and spout.
