Rare Stoneware Canning Jar with Coggled Decoration, attributed to the Thompson Pottery, Morgantown, WV, circa 1855, cylindrical jar with tooled, rounded shoulder, tall collar, and semi-squared rim, decorated around the shoulder with a coggled architectural design featuring circles, arches, and columns. This example is of an unusual tall-collared form and lacks an inner rim for a lid, possibly predating most surviving canning jars produced by the Thompsons. Excellent condition with an in-the-firing, partially glazed-over rim chip and tiny minuscule nicks to underside at edge. H 7 1/2".
