Very Rare Tanware Flowerpot with Profuse Albany Slip Decoration, Inscribed "Jane Lew", Jane Lew, WV origin, circa 1885, tapered flowerpot with attached saucer and semi-rounded rim, decorated in Albany slip with boldly-brushed scalloped stripes flanking a horizontal stripe, above the brushed inscription, "Jane Lew". Strong decoration and highly unusual pottery signature. The first of its kind we have ever offered. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a twenty-year private collection. Very nice, as-made condition with a 1 3/4" in-the-firing flake to rim, a shallow 1" in-the-firing flake to rim, as well as some other minor, in-the-firing roughness to rim. H 8 1/8" ; Diameter (across top) 8 1/4".
