Rare Stoneware Presentation Pitcher with Incised Bird, Insect, and Floral Motifs, Inscribed "Mrs. Wm. Donovan", Northeastern U.S. origin, circa 1885, semi-ovoid, tankard-form pitcher with incised and cobalt-highlighted floral motifs encompassing the shoulder and base, the front decorated with the name, "Mrs. Wm Donovan.", above an incised flower. Reverse with incised and cobalt-highlighted flying bird design, the handle with highly-unusual insect design. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market ecample, purchased by the consignor from Chris Machmer in the 1970s. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with two salt drips to one side. H 8".
