Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Grapes Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG", Pennsylvania origin, circa 1865, ovoid jug with squared spout, decorated with a large brushed design of a cluster of grapes hanging from a leafy vine. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Provenance: David Musser Collection. A glazed-over, in-the-firing line along edge of handle with short lines extending off from it. A 7/8" chip to exterior of spout, two small nicks to exterior of spout, and a few small chips to interior of spout. Some fry to cobalt. Adjacent 2" and a 1 1/4" chips to bottom edge, probably in-the-firing.
