Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Incised Fish and Bird Motifs, probably CT origin, circa 1825, ovoid jar with footed, base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on opposing sides with incised and cobalt-highlighted fish and bird motifs. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. A long restored crack on fish-decorated side. A second partially-restored crack to base, which continues as an unrestored Y-shaped line partway up bird-decorated side. Restoration to underside. Two unrestored lines to underside. Some faint surface lines to base, not visible on interior. Chipping to rim. Jar is out-of-round.
