Rare Half-Gallon Great Road Redware Jug with Manganese Slash Decoration, Eastern TN or Southwestern VA origin, mid 19th century, ovoid jug with stepped spout, heavily-ribbed handle, and combed sine-wave incising at the shoulder, the surface decorated with haphazardly-brushed manganese slashes under a clear lead glaze. Additional manganese application to spout and handle. Desirable origin with distinctive decoration in the Great Road style. Very nice overall condition with a base chip, some small spout nicks, and some typical glaze spalling, common to pieces from this potting school. H 8 3/4".
