Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1870, ovoid jar with footed base, tall collar, and ribbed lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with two boldly-brushed tulips joined at the base. Wavy line decoration below rim on each side. Cobalt highlight to handle terminals along with a wavy line of cobalt underneath each handle. Hairlines on underside, one of which continues horizontally onto base, one of which continues 5 1/2" up side of jar under handle, and a third that continues approximately 4 1/2" to midsection of one decorated side. A tiny in-the-firing ping to interior of rim.
