One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "WHITES UTICA.", New York State origin, circa 1865, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird with fan-shaped tail, perched on a stylized branch. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Provenance: Dr. Raymond L. Owen Collection. Very nice condition with a base chip, a minor base nick, a small salt drip to shoulder, and an in-the-firing iron ping to underside of spout.
