Rare Cobalt-Decorated Salesman's Sample Stoneware Jug, Northeastern U.S. origin, circa 1840, ovoid jug with rounded spout, decorated on the front with a finely executed flower with dotted center. A cobalt script "2" appears to the left of the flower, which would typically indicate a two-gallon capacity. Exceptional size and fine decoration. Provenance: Dr. Raymond L. Owen Collection. Mint condition. H 3 5/8".
