Two Pieces of Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware, Eastern U.S. origin, circa 1865-1880, a two-gallon jug with cobalt tulip decoration, stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA", circa 1865; paired with a one-gallon jug with impressed and cobalt-highlighted swan design, attributed to Gardiner Stoneware Manufactory, Gardiner, ME, circa 1880. Provenance: David Musser Collection. Cowden & Wilcox jug with restored handle, base chip, and some fry to cobalt. Gardiner jug in as-made condition with a 1 3/8" in-the-firing chip to underside at edge.
