Salt-Glazed Stoneware Temperance Jug, Signed and Dated "D.B. Garner, Seagrove, NC, 1992", ovoid jug, decorated with numerous snakes featuring various caricatured human faces. Impressed triangular scales to snakes' bodies. Stippled incising to body of jug. Modeled after the iconic Anna Pottery temperance jug depicting the Boss Tweed Ring. Includes head-form stopper. Underside incised "Turn & Burn / Pottery / Seagrove, NC / D.B. Garner / Matthew 23:33 / 1992". Neck of stopper possibly reglued. Otherwise mint condition. H (including stopper) 10 1/4".
