Five-Gallon Double-Handled Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "WHITES UTICA", New York State origin, circa 1870, cylindrical jug with semi-squared rim and open handles, the front decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a flowering plant bearing three blossoms. Brushed cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. An approximately 9" inverted Y-shaped crack on reverse, with a small line extending a short distance off from it onto underside. Two small, in-the-firing iron pings to reverse, which are glazed over. Some shallow, in-the-firing chipping to base. A few in-the-firing pings to underside. H 17 1/2".
