Rare Stoneware Tankard Pitcher with Cobalt Bird Decoration, MA origin, circa 1860, approximately one-half-gallon, cylindrical pitcher with tooled shoulder, ribbed handle, and squared rim molding, embellished with tooled lines, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a looping line. Decorated with four pairs of brushed dashes above, additional dashes along the spout, and slip-trailed flourishes flanking the spout. Unusual form. Light wear to handle. A small in-the-firing ping at base and one top of rim. Some fry to cobalt. Some staining. H 8".
