Outstanding Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Doe and Tree Decoration, Stamped "HUBBELL & CHESEBRO, / GEDDES, N.Y.", circa 1870, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a doe with heavily-spotted and shaded body, standing on a stylized ground in front of a tree. Slip-trailed "6" to shoulder. Desirable figural motif. Provenance: Property of a New York State collector. Very nice overall condition. An in-the-firing stone ping to shoulder. A chip to interior of rim. A minor in-the-firing bottom chip, visible when crock is turned over. A 2 1/4" surface line at base on reverse, not visible on interior and likely in the firing. H 12 3/4".
