Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Pheasant Decoration, Crolius or Remmey Family, Manhattan, NY, circa 1800, highly-ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a pheasant with crest, ringed neck, and well-detailed wing, perched on a stylized ground. This jug was produced by the same as-yet-unidentified maker as the iconic "Henry Edoson" bird flask, now in the Weitsman Collection at the New York State Museum in Albany, NY. Provenance: Property of a New York State collector. A jagged crack extending from the shoulder to base area, to right of decoration. Some in-the-firing crazing to shoulder and an in-the-firing chip bird's wing. A long cross-shaped crack on side of jug, extending to base, connecting to an area of tight crazing on reverse. Small base chips, one of which is glazed over.
