Two Open-Handled Stoneware Jars with Alkaline Glaze, Crawford County, GA origin, second half 19th century, both of squat, ovoid form and two applied handles at the shoulder, the smaller example of appealing form with tall collar and pronounced collar molding. Larger example with streaky olive-green alkaline glaze. Smaller example with mottled olive-green alkaline glaze. Provenance: Dr. Raymond L. Owen Collection. Smaller jar with professionally-restored rim chips and a minor unrestored base chip. Larger jar with in-the-firing base chips, the rim with an in-the-firing chip and some in-the-firing roughness. H (of smaller jar) 6 1/8".
