Anna Pottery Stoneware Pig Flask with Elaborate Incised Railroad Map, Incised "To my Old Friend / with a little good Old Rye / in a Pigs 1895", Anna, IL origin, 1895, molded flask in the form of a reclining pig with incised details to face and hooves, hole at rear, and anatomically-correct underside, the surface dipped in a chocolate-brown Albany slip glaze, and incised on one side with the inscription, "St Louis / To my Old Friend / with a little good Old Rye / in a Pigs- 1895". Remainder of pig incised with a map of the Midwestern U.S., including the following landmarks: Miss River, Chester, Gd Tower, Ava, Purcy, C & A, Rock Ilnd, Bellville, O & M, Springfld, Pinkville, murphystown, Alto, M & O, ICRR, Lasalle, C & R, Dwight, Bloomington, Decatur, Sandoval, I.C, mounds, Carbondale, Duquoin, Tamaroa, Centralia, Odin, Vincennes, Kanka, Pullman, Chicago, Big 4, Tunnel Hill, Mound City, cai[ro], Cincinnati, and Anna. This late-period pig features a finely-molded face with pronounced jowls as well an extensive map, which includes some landmarks uncommon to most Anna Pottery pig flasks.
