Very Fine Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pig Flask with Incised Railroad Map, Inscribed "St. Louis the future Great / Latest and Only Reliable / Rail Road and River Guide / By / Anna Pottery / 1889", Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, 1889, molded flask in the form of a reclining pig with incised details to face and hooves, hole at rear, and anatomically-correct underside. Incised on one side with the cobalt-highlighted inscription, "St. Louis the future Great / Latest and Only Reliable / Rail Road and River Guide / By / Anna Pottery / 1889". Remainder of pig incised with a cobalt-highlighted map of the Midwest, including the following landmarks: Miss River, G Tower, Purcy, Pinkville, O & M, Springfield, murpheys, Jones B, ICRR, Bloomington, Pullman, Kankakee, Champagne, Odin, Centralia, Tamaroa, Carbondale, Cairo, Olney, iCRR, C & V RR, Vincennes, Mound City, Anna, Chicago the Corn City, and Cincinnati the Pork City. An excellent example of an iconic Anna Pottery form, exhibiting crisp incising, beautiful color, and even salt glazing throughout. Provenance: Property of a New York State collector.
