Scarce Half-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, probably Manhattan origin, mid 18th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and semi-rounded rim, decorated around the shoulder with three stylized, slip-trailed designs based upon watch spring motifs of the period. Brushed cobalt band around shoulder. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a fifty-year private collection. A 1 1/8" partially glazed-over chip to foot, a U-shaped crack to foot, and other small chips to foot. A 2 1/2" diagonal surface line extending from base, not visible on interior. Small rim chips. A small iron ping to rim and 7/8" iron ping to shoulder. H 7 1/2".
