Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Impressed Decoration, Stamped "WARNE", Thomas Warne, South Amboy, NJ, early 19th century, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder, footed base, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front with two impressed scalloped drape motifs highlighted in iron slip. Iron slip highlights to handle terminals. A difficult-to-find, early South Amboy maker's mark. Approximately 6" x 3 1/2" area of heavy salt residue to side of jar, descending from handle. Base and rim chips. Some light areas of exfoliation to shoulder on front and reverse. Heavier exfoliation to underside.
