One-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Stamped "JFS", James Franklin Seagle, Vale, Lincoln County, NC, third quarter 19th century, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder and flared collar, the surface covered in a mottled, olive-green alkaline glaze. Shoulder impressed with James Franklin Seagle maker's mark, lacking the "J", beside a one-gallon capacity mark. A curved hairline, extending approximately 3" down from rim. Wear to inner rim, which would hold a lid.
