Fine Five-Gallon Double-Handled Stoneware Jug with Alkaline Glaze, Incised with Two Slash Marks, Edgefield District, SC origin, circa 1840, highly-ovoid jug with tooled spout and open strap handles with depressed handle terminals, the shoulder incised with two large slash marks. Surface covered in a mottled dark-brown glaze. Outstanding, sculptural form, surviving in remarkable condition. Provenance: Dr. Raymond L. Owen Collection. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 17".
