Very Fine Five-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug with Glass Runs, Stamped "D S", Daniel Seagle, Vale, Lincoln County, NC, circa 1840, highly-ovoid jug with ribbed strap handle, the surface covered in an olive-green alkaline glaze. Reverse decorated with large glass runs including rutile, cascading from the handle. Shoulder impressed "D S" and "5". Excellent form and desirable glass-run treatment, characteristic of Seagle's best work. Professional restoration to spout. Some tight lines to base area, presumably in-the-firing. H 17".
