Very Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Impressed Decoration, Stamped "DAVID MORGAN. / NEW YORK", Manhattan, NY origin, early 19th century, ovoid jug with footed base and heavily-tooled spout, decorated with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted "clamshell" and heart motif. Impressed below with the very rare, short-lived maker's mark of Corlears Hook potter, David Morgan, highlighted in cobalt slip. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: Robert Meltzer Collection. Two flakes to underside and cracks in underside, one of which continues 4 1/2" up front of jug, and a few others which continue as tight lines onto foot of jug. Otherwise excellent condition. H 15".
