Half-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Northeastern U.S. origin, probably New York State, early 19th century, ovoid jug with footed base and tooled spout, decorated with a brushed daisy blossom emanating from a leafy stem. This decoration appears to be based upon the incised designs of the late 18th and early 19th century potteries of Manhattan, NY. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a fifty-year private collection. In-the-firing cracks to front. A shallow spout chip. H 9 1/2".
