Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Star Decoration, probably Egbert Schoonmaker, Kingston or Manhattan, NY, early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed star surrounded by spots. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. One side with a tight top-to-bottom spider crack and a 6 1/2" diagonal crack from rim. Opposite side with a 5 3/4" Y-shaped line and a 2 1/4" X-shaped line to shoulder area. A sealed crack on underside, continuing onto base area on front and reverse. Light exfoliation to base. Heavy chipping to base. Two small chips to interior of rim.
