Scarce Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt House Decoration, Stamped "A.O. WHITTEMORE. / HAVANA, N.Y.", circa 1865, semi-ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a house flanked by trees and underscored by an elaborate stylized ground. Light cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A classic Whittemore design. A 3 1/2" spider crack from spout with wear or possibly grinding along crack line. A 1" brown-colored iron ping or stone ping on front.
