Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "N. CLARK & CO / LYONS", New York State origin, circa 1850, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a flowering plant with intricate blossom and detailed leaves. Slip-trailed "5" on each side of decoration. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Two shallow rim chips on reverse. A 5" vertical line extending from shoulder to midsection on front. A 1 3/4" line from rim on reverse. Several short, minor surface lines to body on reverse, all of which do not extend through to the interior and appear to be in-the-firing. A faint 2" surface line to far left side of crock's front, not visible on the interior. Two chips to one handle and a minor chip to opposite handle. Two in-the-firing iron pings to interior. Some exfoliation to interior base.
