One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT", circa 1855, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed floral design featuring striped blossoms. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: Dr. Raymond L. Owen Collection. A small in-the-firing chip at base on reverse. Two very minor chips to underside at edge, one of which appears to be in-the-firing. A nick to lower handle terminal. A few minor chips to bottom edge. A few nicks to spout. Two minor iron pings to side of jug. A 6" inverted Y-shaped hairline to side of jug.
