Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Bird Decoration, attributed to the Morgan and van Wickle, Old Bridge, NJ, early 19th century, ovoid jug with footed base and distinctive tooled spout with semi-rounded lip, the front decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a bird with paddle-shaped tail, perched on a stylized leaf. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Tight cracks to base, extending several inches up body of jug. Base chips. A minor, glazed-over spout chip.
