Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Impressed Floral Decoration, attributed to Jonathan Fenton, Boston, MA, late 19th century, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, recessed rim to allow for a lid, and open loop handles pressed against the shoulder at their apex; decorated on the front and reverse with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted design of a flower. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a fifty-year private collection. Minor chipping to base. A small rim chip. Otherwise as-made condition with in-the-firing flaws, including iron pings, several contact marks, a few including small, in-the-firing surface chips, and a short surface line from rim.
