Stoneware Jar with Coggled Bird-and-Leaf Decoration, Branch Green, probably Philadelphia, PA origin, early 19th century, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a coggled design of a bird holding a leaf in its beak, highlighted in cobalt slip. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. A large Y-shaped crack on side of jar, extending across underside and a short distance up reverse of jar. Two small, in-the-firing contact marks to shoulder. A few small base chips. A small chip or lime ping to interior of rim. A 2 1/4" line at base, continuing 1 3/4" onto underside. H 8".
