Two Glazed Redware Jars, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'", PA origin, circa 1850-1880, both of similar ovoid form with tooled shoulders and squared rims, one covered in a reddish-brown lead-and-manganese glaze, the other with a dark-brown, aventurine lead-and-manganese glaze. Both impressed with John Bell maker's marks at the shoulder. Provenance: The Stradlings; shorter jar ex-Country Inn, 1970. Shorter jar with a thin, approximately 2 1/2" crack from rim on reverse. Otherwise excellent condition. Taller jar with an approximately 1 1/2" hairline from rim, a small rim chip, wear to rim, and some light wear to surface. H (of shorter jar) 5 1/4".
