Fine Three-Quart Stoneware Presentation Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Inscribed "Alex. Henderson.", attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1885, ovoid pitcher with footed base, rounded rim, and tooling at base of collar, featuring the finely-incised and cobalt-highlighted name, "Alex. Henderson.", incised across the front. Decorated below with a cobalt flowering plant bearing four blossoms, an unusual design, which diverges somewhat from the Remmeys' typical tulip motifs. Collar and spout decorated with cobalt leaves between a band of swags and a freehand cobalt stripe. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. An appealing example in all respects. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor in the 1990s. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 9 1/2".
