Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Coggled Signature, Impressed "PAUL CUSHMAN's:STONEWARE.FACTORY.1809 / HALF.A.MILE.WESTOFALBANY.GOAL," Albany, NY origin, circa 1809, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, and applied lug handles, the front featuring the elaborate, cobalt-highlighted maker's mark of Paul Cushman, featuring his rare and desirable "HALF.A.MILE.WESTOFALBANY.GOAL" location. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Very nice overall condition. Rim chips. A smooth, in-the-firing chipped section to underside at edge. Typical iron pings to surface. Some wear to end of one handle. Minor wear to opposite handle. H 9 1/2".
