Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Watchspring Decoration, Manhattan, NY or Cheesequake, NJ origin, second half 18th century, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, and ribbed vertical handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a large slip-trailed "watchspring" motif. Scalloped brushwork reminiscent of flower petals. Additional cobalt highlight to upper handle terminal. Restoration to one handle. Significant restoration to body. Restoration to base. Tight spider cracks to surface.
