Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Running Bird Decoration, Stamped "WHITES. UTICA NY", circa 1870, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird with fan-shaped tail and turned head, "running" atop a stylized branch. Provenance: David Musser Collection. A 7/8" x 5/8" cluster of shallow in-the-firing chips to rim. A chip to side of rim. An in-the-firing chip to underside at edge. A 3" vertical hairline on reverse, not visible on interior. A 1 3/4" spot of staining on reverse.
