Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "WHITES.UTICA," New York State origin, circa 1865, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird with striped body and long tail, perched on a stylized branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A chip and minuscule nick to one handle. Two short lines to base on left side of jar. Some streaks of staining.
